By now, you’ve either seen or heard about the 52nd edition of the Grammy Awards. Don’t worry though, this piece isn’t designed to relive any of those moments as I’m sure you’ve had your fill. Instead, I wanted to focus on the song that won the award for “Best Female Pop Vocal.”

The song was Beyonce’s “Halo,” and I have to admit that I’ve gained a newfound appreciation for it. I’ve always thought the song was nice, but it wasn’t until Grammy night that I actually soaked in the lyrics.

Here’s my take…

I’m sure we’ve all experienced moments in life where the past has forced us to emotionally block out the rest of the world out. Whether it was a disappointing breakup or a tragic loss, our mind was made up that we were never going to risk being hurt again.

For a while at least, the attempts to keep that wall up were successful, until <del datetime="2010-02-02T13:00:23+00:00">something</del> … someone happens. Before we know it, that wall has come crashing down, and our life has suddenly been recharged and reinvigorated by the possibility of new love. To me, that’s what “Halo” is about … embracing that moment when Mr. or Mrs. Right comes along—the moment when we finally let our guard down to experience love in its purest form. It’s out there for us; it’s just a matter of both you and I deciding that we’re open to experiencing it.

For my money, “Halo” is a beautiful song with a beautiful love perspective … it deserves to be featured today.

Happy Tuesday.

Fly Lyrics:
Remember those walls I built
Well, baby they’re tumbling down
And they didn’t even put up a fight
They didn’t even make up a sound

I found a way to let you in
But I never really had a doubt
Standing in the light of your halo
I got my angel now

It’s like I’ve been awakened
Every rule I had you breakin’
It’s the risk that I’m takin’
I ain’t never gonna shut you out

Everywhere I’m looking now
I’m surrounded by your embrace
Baby I can see your halo
You know you’re my saving grace

You’re everything I need and more
It’s written all over your face
Baby I can feel your halo
Pray it won’t fade away
