Last night, I aimlessly walked the streets of Amsterdam with no set destination in mind. Now, it wasn’t like I didn’t have anywhere to go … in fact, it was quite the opposite. But before I could make my scheduled dinner plans, I wanted to walk and clear my mind a bit.

Allow me to reintroduce myself. If you believe in things like birth certificates or the facts on a driver’s license, then my name is DeWayne Rogers—middle child of three, and product of a mother and father who have been “happily” married for 35 years. I still think of her sometimes. Her name was Renee. And everything about her was just … well, perfect. Her smile, her sense of humor, her birthmark that peeked ever so slightly … sorry, I drifted a bit … she was just a special woman. My only regret was that our relationship was so short-lived.
