Love Takes Work

I’m an imperfect human being.

I’m reminded of this each day just by the smallest of missteps that I make. For the most part, these aren’t  earth-shattering mistakes, but they do serve as a gentle reminder to never lose sight of the fact that I’m a work in progress.

An area where I consistently need work is in my spiritual life. As much as I know what I believe in, I’m still required to put in serious work each day to ensure my continued development into the man that I’m supposed to be. There’s no getting around it. And on the days that I try to cut corners, I mess up … a lot.

So keep me in your prayers.

The same can be said for your love life. As much as you try to convince yourself that loving this person should be easy, it’s actually the exact opposite. While it’s a beautiful feeling to discover a person worth loving, that discovery doesn’t exempt you from the daily rigors of learning how to coexist with another human being … it just makes the process more enjoyable.

The bottom line is there are no short cuts in love.  And just like I have to work hard each day in my spiritual life, that same philosophy must be applied to your relationships. And if you aren’t willing to do that, then are really serious about wanting to experience lasting love?

I think not.

Lovely! So many people forget love takes work and it’s not all Hollywood. Working towards becoming a better person for God, your family, and for your significant other.

I totally agree with you Fly Guy. What in life is easy? Once you found someone that has your heart and vice versa and you two commit to making a life together it will be a challenge everyday for both parties to make it work, especially when they are situations like bady daddies and baby mammas involved but the outcome (love and happiness) is so wonderful that I feel the hard work is soooo worth it and If that will always be the result then I even welcome it. Great article!

I really like this note. Made me think… Love is the foundation of who we are as beings. We were made out of love and we are here because of love. “For God so love the world that He gave His only begotten Son…” (John 3:16) So its something that need, however it can be difficult to obtain. It’s very difficult to love ourselves and others. Sometimes we can be our own worst enemy. And in relationships it’s sometimes difficult to deal with another person, with a totally different personality, being apart of your life. However, through the tough times and good times, love is most defiantly the greatest gift we possess.” And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” (1 Corinthians 13)
