If time possesses the ability to heal all wounds, then it should also be capable of giving me the perspective I need to move on in the aftermath of you and I. There’s so many ways that I could mentally spin what happened between us just so I can sleep at night … but I won’t. Truth is, I need to feel every one of these emotions, because I know I fucked up … I mean, I know I did. And I’m sure that even you could reflect back on our time together, and find areas that you could have improved upon as well…
But that’s not why I’m writing this.
I’m writing this to say that our time apart has opened my eyes to a new level clarity. For the first time I clearly see you for who you are. You’re an incredibly beautiful woman—probably the most beautiful woman that I have ever known or will ever know.
Sadly, that beauty is meant to be enjoyed by someone else … someone that can fully appreciate you; someone that can love you freely; and someone that can love you as completely as you loved me.
You see, my intimate understanding of your beauty blinded me to the fact that we just weren’t meant to be. That was through no fault of our own though. God just had a different plan for our lives.
I have to accept that.
I also have to accept the fact that I can’t be selfish and prevent you from finding true love—a point that I’ve been guilty of in the past. I guess what I’m trying to say is that I will always love … and if you ever need me, I’ll be here. That’s my solemn vow.

Wow….and then wow again D. I’m sending this to my ex right now….wondering if possibly….just maybe….he can feel this. This sliced through me like liquid glass….great work black man.
This is beautiful. If we could all express ourselves the way you do it would make our lives more meaningful.
I urge everyone to take a moment out of each day to stop and enjoy the beautiful things we so often take for granted.
Even though the words hurt a little bit it was well said. It’s a big thing for someone to accept the responsibility of the destruction of a relationship because it’s such a selfless act. As individuals we never want to be the bad guy or the one that is to blame for why it didn’t work so we continue to point out the other person’s flaws to make it all seem ok or to justify our actions. Many people leave relationships damaged, discouraged, and doubtful and many times it carries on to future relationships. If we could all step up like this then maybe more pretty wings will be able to take off in a new and positive direction.
And this is the reason why I love this song so much. Its like the soundtrack to my love life.
I feel a little like this at least once a week. Even though i’ve moved on its hard to forget the fact that i had a very good thing. Four years later, if she needed anything i would oblige. I know she knows it anad she has never once tried to take advantage of it.

An amazingly beautiful piece you’ve written! And of course, Pretty Wings is a great song to pair it with. It is very courageous for someone to admit their faults and accept responsibility for the demise of a relationship. If only more people were like this…Keep up the good work!
