Her Love Knocked Me Down

My prayers always started out the same way. “Thank you Lord for this day. Thank you for allowing my loved ones to be safe. And Lord, thank you for her.”

That’s right … Thank you for her.

From the moment we first locked eyes, I knew that my existence would forever be altered in some mind-blowing, life-shifting way. While other women could only look in my eyes, she had somehow managed to peer directly into my heart.

She knocked me down … rendered me defenseless … and forced me to wave the white flag, surrendering all of the childish relationship games I once played.

I was officially hers.

For the first time in my life, I finally understood the type of love I’d always hear on the radio. She was my “Summer Rain,” and “Beauty” would forever be her name. So I couldn’t help but thank God for placing her in my life…

But then things ended.

I’m not even sure where we went wrong, but I distinctly remember waking up one morning to the chilling reality that our once perfect love had someone hollowed out into a shell of its former self. We fought hard to save it, but over time it became clear that we were just not meant to be.

Her absence in my life was a shock to the system, and one that I hope to never experience again. I went from disappointed, to despondent, to angry, and back to disappointed again. That’s when I realized that as easy as it is fall in love, it’s twice as hard to pick yourself back up once you hit the ground.

In time my prayers began to change though…

“Thank you Lord for this day. Thank you for allowing my loved ones to be safe. And thank you for showing me that real love is possible. But most of all, thank you for being there to pick me up after love knocked me down.”

The Fly Conclusion: If you plan on living and loving in this world, then you should also be prepared to fall down a time or two during the process. Just make sure that when love does knock you down, that you pick yourself back up again. Deal?

    bah humbug….

  • http://reinasong.blogspot.com REINA

    LOL @ Mowgli

    Ooh, Ne-Yo!

    Love is just…evil.

  • Tubbs

I love you to death, but I don’t understand sometimes why women have to be so pessimistic when it comes to love. I really believe that the negativity breeds bad results.

    BTW, how’s everybody been? lol.

  • http://reinasong.blogspot.com REINA

    @ Tubbs

I’m not pessimistic. I’m just not in a sappy mood right now. And I’ve been disappointed.

To be honest, I think love is beautiful, and I would like more of it in my life. Yet when it knocks you down, it hurts like hell. So though love is grand, it’s also hell. I’m not pessimistic, just realistic.

    Nonetheless, I’ve been great! You?

FG, approve my picture por favor.

  • Tubbs

    @Reina,

I understand what you’re saying. But it’s the whole risk/ reward scenario. You can never win the big pot unless you push your chips to the center of the table. I know you get it though. I was just speaking in generalities really.

I’m good though. Not sure why I’m still up, but I’m good. LOL

Hey Tubbs! I’ve just had enough of everyone else’s love being smashed in my face this week and it’s only tuesday…

  • Tubbs

    Hey beautiful,

Yeah, love face smashing is never enjoyable, lol.

  • Nishadiva

    Hey all!

    Good morning everyone.

Good post FG. I could easily sign my name at the bottom of this and send it to my ex withouy changing one word.

On the real we need to realize that Love is a double edged sword…Jon B said it best in his classic Love Hurts joint:

    “Sometimes love can feel
Like the closest thing to heaven
    Sometimes love can feel
Like you’ve been run over by a car
Yes it can it’s the strangest thing I know
Make you feel warm when you feel cold
And if you dowm on happiness
You better get used to the taste of sadness
Cause love can sure hurt sometimes”

Sappy as hell but its real talk

    Hi people!

Nisha! You’ve been ghost and missed.

I really do like this song. I like her entire album actually.

Love is indescribable. Blaze, those lyrics are beyond truthful. I haven’t given up on it yet, though. And if Ne-Yo calls me a “pretty little missile,” I’ll do it again. (That’s for Fabie. LOL)

NishaDiva, is that you?!!!! Hey bff!
    Oh boo, the L-word
    Rei,
smh…what am i gonna do with you? We must get you to forget about Neyo, we just must

Relationships can totally suck. I remember my worst break up. Keep in mind, I was a teenager. I had my older friend buy me some Erk and Jerk, drop me off at the park and I got stoopid drunk. On my way home, I almost got kidnapped but a lady passing buy saved my life. (still grateful to her) Me and the dude ended up back together.
Being in love just makes you smile when you think about something they said, a comment that was made, a face, a moment, a laugh. It’s all worth it. But like FG said you got to pick yourself up when you fall cuz it happens to the best of us.

  • Just A Thought

    Hey all!

Love can be a beautiful thing. But life goes on after it ends, and you have to move on.

But moving on doesn’t mean you stay stuck on stupid. You should realize what’s realistic and what’s not.

  • Miss Coco

The front picture of Yeezy and Keri look like it should be the pic for a domestic violence story

  • Jay

With every pro there’s a con.
Love can be one of the most beautiful experiences ever yet on the flip side hurt like hell!!

    QUESTION TO EVERYONE:
Have you ever stopped to think that love as we understand it is perhaps totally distorted? Maybe love was never meant to last forever as we all hope for it to be. What if the sooner we let go of the attachment of “forever”, this thing called “love” would be less pain filled and disappointing?

  • http://and1grad.blogspot.com and1grad

    @Jay
Wouldnt it then become less rewarding and less desirable?

  • Tubbs

    I agree…If that’s what love is, then I don’t think I want it.

That new reality of love sounds like someone waving the white flag.

  • Jay

    @ and1grad
Although, I don’t like the reality of it I don’t think it will make “love” less desirable or rewarding because you’d be enjoying the essence of it’s beauty in the moment.

    @Tubbs
It’s not a waving of the white flag. It’s just the conclusion I’ve reached after experiencing a few heartbreaks and witnessing others go through the same.

  • Jay

Just to further clarify myself. I’m not at all saying that I don’t believe in love because I do. I don’t however, expect love to always last “forever”. Sometimes people are people are meant to be in your life for only a season and to teach you a valuable lesson.

The longer we hold onto what once was, the longer we suffer and create this love hate relationship with “love”.

@blaze that Jon B song is right on the money.

Love tastes like a strawberry cheesecake to it so goods that sometimes it hurts when you get a taste.

  • magz
