But if the SO is, let's say, a fiance or husband, it does require time to cool off and think things through before making a decision that you may regret for the rest of your life. And for the question of the day - even though it hurts to hear that confession from your SO, it would hurt even more hearing it through the grapevine. So yeah, a confession is better. I’d have to go with option 3.
