I guess it’s time for me to get personal and share a little known fact about my life pre-Fly Guy. Well before I surrendered myself to a life of love and relationships, I wanted to a sing. Now before you say, “not another aspiring singer,” I was actually really good.

I sang in this group called S.T.A.T.U.S., and we were a Lyfe Jennings’ defeat away from winning the grand finale on “It’s Showtime At The Apollo.” What I remember most about my time in the group was our ability to sincerely pour our hearts into songs that dealt with the disappointments that love can sometimes bring.

Those memories made me want to share one of our old songs with you. In “How Could You Leave Me Now,” the situation being described is an all too familiar one.

The Setup
“I loved you with everything that I had within me. I laughed with you, cried with you, and would have given my last to you. When times got tough, who was there? Me. I was there to wipe your tears away, and comfort you until you got back on your feet.

But when the tables got turned, and I needed you, what happened? You bailed on me with no reasonable explanation. How could you have done that to me? How could you have left me? How could I have been so blind?”

My Request

    I’ve never been on the receiving end of that, although I probably did selfishly walk away from my last relationship because I though she had too much drama going on in her life. Maybe I could have been there for her…

    all u can do is learn from the situation and be happy that u did ur part even if it didnt work out

    I have heard about so many people who have been through this situation. Luckily, I have never experienced the end of it. My relationship now started out just like this. My boyfriend was just spiraling downward in his life, everything that could go wrong was going wrong. He basically had nothing going for himself but I stuck around and I kept working on him(yall men may call it nagging but I call it working), I mean I was riding his back. He had lost his job, so I spent all day filling out applications(and taking those long ass personality tests for him), I was getting everything he needed and supplying him with all the necessities, I was his shoulder to cry on, and the ear that was always listening. Then one day I got him a gig working for a family friend and her husband told me “I dont know why u doing all this for him he just gonna leave you when he gets back on his feet” and I confronted him on that and he told me that would never happen and it didnt.

    yeah I was about to ask that too. I’m glad it worked out for you Cherish, but that sounds like he was just being lazy and wan’t trying while you were doing everything for him. I hope he doesn’t take you for granted.

    While I was doing that, he was going to job fairs, interviews and whatever else I could find online to send him to. See, we didnt have a computer at home so I would come to work, go online and call home and send him out places.

    i’ve never been in said situation but if i were I’d cut a fool..lol just kit-ting..My thing is if it’s obvious you don’t feel the same way about me that i feel about you then i’m not going cry and lust after you.It’s your loss. I’ll prolly be upset but i’ll get over it..somehow

    I think there are signs that can lead you or show you that your feelings aren’t being reciprocated (big word for the day!!! lol). but if there aren’t then it would be harder to get over the hurt. But still my thing is if you don’t want me i’m not going to cry a river over you as much as it might hurt, it’s still your loss.

    So FG, which voice is yours? The song is nice, and I like it. It cuts a bit, though. As someone who’s been on the dishing end, it resonates loud and true with a recent relationship. I wasn’t happy but I’d promised to stay with my guy. So I did because I knew he loved me deeply, and there was no guarantee that anyone else ever would. But I wasn’t happy and I had to walk away. He took it as a betrayal, a broken promise. It may have been, but I had to be selfish and do what I considered best for me.

    oh no girl I was past my days of being just plain dumb by then. I was looking for proof and paperwork from wherever I sent him to, cuz if I was gonna be busting my ass to help him, best believe he was busting his twice as hard. I could have just left him when he first lost his job, and came back when he got it together, but I didnt I helped him get it together and I guess it proved to be the right decision.

    No man is supposed to come off like me. We’re all different; all unique in our own way, just like you women are.

    @Songbird: LOL, naw, there’s no disguise, just me. Don’t get caught up with Chrissy. She can be a bad influence…lol.

    As far as the group, we just got older and pursued our own interests. It wasn’t anything bad; just sometimes you have to learn how to let go … like a relationship.

    Good topic, btw. It sucks, but sometimes you get used, feelings just aren’t mutual, and you have to just brush your shoulder and move on. There really isn’t much you CAN do; you can’t chase after someone who doesn’t want you, and you make someone feel what you want them to feel. And sometimes it’s not always a vindictive thing; a person could have just fallen out of love, realized you’re not the one for them for the long haul, whatever, and they needed to move on. If it was a time where you really needed their support in your life, as sucky as it sounds in the moment, it may be for the best that they chose that time to leave so as not to lead you on any more to think there’s something there that’s not.

    Yes, been in that situation before, but we shouldn’t be destroyed because God made us givers. Love will blind you form seeing things that are so obvious that you end up getting hurt because you chose not to see the signs. Just another part of life’s lesson learned.
