My Ex Won't Go Away!

Dear Fly Guy,
I had a strange relationship with my ex, which eventually came to an end. After initially attempting to be civil, I finally got to the point where I had enough and asked him to stop contacting me. He wouldn’t listen though. At first I took the diplomatic approach, and then I tried the “Super B*tch” approach, but he still refused to stop. It was almost as if I had never said anything or like he thought I was joking. I really don’t have a desire to be his friend nor speak to him ever again. How can I get him to take me seriously? And how can I get him to see that I want nothing to do with him?

Dear Essence,
Unfortunately, it’s hard for some people to let go of the past. Your situation actually reminds me of the days leading up to Lionel Ritchie cutting off his jheri curl. For the longest time, I couldn’t get him to part ways with that hair style … even though he knew it had no real place in his life. The same can be said for your ex, as he too has a serious problem with letting go of the past. As far as what you should do, I wouldn’t respond to him diplomatically. But I also wouldn’t respond out of anger either. Just don’t respond. Of course he’ll still try for a while, but in time I’m sure he’ll get the picture and let go. Lionel finally did. Hope this helps.
