Jay-Z & Beyonce…I do or I don't?

Today, I’ve decided to step aside and feature one of my favorite blog friends. Jenee of JSpace, posted an insightful feature on the highly publicized Jay-Z and Beyonce nuptials. Her thoughts should generate lots of discussion, so please read, comment, and share with others.

Hip-Hop royalty Jay-Z and Beyonce are rumored to have tied the knot a week ago, and it’s the talk of the tabloids. After dating for about six years, the two crazy in love artists may or may not have finally married.

If they did, I’m happy for them. But I wish the tabloids would stop trying to tear them apart. I would like to see her dress… but seriously, everyone keeps saying it’s about time they got married, it was long overdue. But, what does that really mean? What I want to know, is how long is too long to be dating? If you’ve been dating someone for two years and it doesn’t look like it’s headed down the aisle, do you move on? This has been a topic among friends lately, marriage deadlines and dating timelines. I would really like to hear from people about this.

    You sound real ignit. To all sensible people here, I think that time constraints are what tear relationships apart. Once you start pressuring a man or a woman to settle down, that’s when the trouble begins. Just relax, and like John Legend said, “Take It Slow!”

    If I’m dating a guy for two years, and he hasn’t even mentioned marriage, I’m out the door! I’m not going to be strung along by anyone. Fuck that!

    I think when its right you just “know”. And I can agree that when women ask for dates and timelines, it makes us run for the hills faster than Jed Clampett with his shotgun shooting for some food. Just let things happen, usually most of the time, we have a plan.

    I agree with Mona. Jay-Z and Beyonce’s time together isn’t like everyone else’s. It probably didn’t feel that long to them.

    well i agree with what most the people here been saying bey and jay are them, lol they are their own couple with they own issues inside that relationship, and everyone is different congrats to em…..

    Here’s the things, well two things actually:

    1. ANY relationship, be romantic, platonic, spiritual, or simply banging in dark spaces, all relationships should be about the experience and not the outcome.

    What is your relationship teaching you about yourself? What is it feeding you? Are BOTH you and the other person growing? Enjoying it? Becoming better BECAUSE of it? That’s what relationships are about. So if you’ve been with someone for two years and all your focused on is “Where is this heading” then you’ve missed the point of the last 24 months.

    2. Jay-Z and Beyonce didn’t get married. Shaw Carter and Beyonce Knowles stood before their family and friends and asked God to bless and accept their union. And THAT is not open to the public. I’m proud of them for bein’ real about it. And taking the stance of “This aspect of our lives is not for sale,” although I’m sure Matthew is gonna find some way to make a dollar off of it. He’ll probably make Solange stage some re-enactment.

    I’m happy for them! I think that when people put dates and times on things that if you are not ready then you will run for the hills but if you then, “Tell me when and I’ll be there!” If you both are in it then you will know when you are ready, just don’t ever rush into anything because of other people!
