Dear Celeste,

I’m glad you read the column. It’s always encouraging to hear from people who support what I do. As far as balancing my personal and professional life, that seems to be a challenge for most people. If you allow it to, there will always be something standing in the way of you achieving balance in your relationship. In the end, it all comes down to your priorities and the things you value most.

Take Al Sharpton for instance. In case you didn’t know, his perm is really important to him. So no matter what’s happening in the world…recession, injustice, genocide; it doesn’t matter, because Al isn’t marching anywhere until his hair is layered and luxurious. Once those needs are met, he then handles his professional business. Your boyfriend needs to let Al’s perm be his guide. In the end, if he doesn’t want to take the necessary steps to nurture your relationship, then maybe his career is the only thing that’s really important to him. Just something to think about.
