Does She Love Me?
Dear Fly Guy,
I’ve been a faithful reader since day one, so I hope I’ve finally earned a chance to get my question featured. Here’s my problem. My girlfriend and I have been together for about 6 months now, and I’ve fallen madly in love with her. The problem is that everytime I tell her that I love her, she just smiles and says thank you. I can feel it in my heart that she loves me too, but she just won’t say it. Why is that?

Dear Ryan,
Thanks for supporting the column. There may be several reasons why your girlfriend has yet to say I love you back. My first impression is that she just may not love you yet. If that’s the case, then you should respect her stance. Instead of just saying empty words to make you feel better, she has decided to wait until she really means it.
On the other hand, her past experiences may make her fearful of making such a deep commitment to you so soon. After all, 6 months is not a long period of time…unless you’re referring to the length of Vanilla Ice’s career, which actually made 6 months feel like an eternity. So just give her the space and time to express herself on her terms. If she really loves you, then she’ll eventually come around to verbalizing those feelings. In the end, you’ll be glad she waited.
